No way! and I did it!

Well, 4 days post op and I feel a little better. The pain is less and I require less pain meds. Which is good since they make me drunk and dizzy. I worked out this morning. Well, I took a shower without help. So, that's my workout for today. I am sitting up in bed and watching bad movies on cable.

I weighed this am and I'm down to below pre-surgery weight. I weighed 213.2 this am. It makes me sick to type that because it is still up 3.6 pounds or so. I'm having trouble with math right now. I did decide to quit the sprite now. I feel better. So instead I had hot tea. I'll do this and water. I like honey in my tea, but splenda will do and that will decrease my calories.

I POOPED!  I know you've all been waiting with baited breath to hear this news. It wasn't much, but it helped. I am less bloaty and that helps me feel a lot better.Maybe all this poop talk is why I lost a follower? If so, I'm sorry, but when you spend all day talking about certain things they don't seem like that big a deal anymore.

I WON!  Jae over at I found it at the Marathon had a give away and I won! I won an itunes gift care which is awesome because as as soon as I can I'll be running again and I can always use some new tunes. I like angry music to run to. Any ideas?  What's funny is I didn't even know I was entering. I was just reading and commenting cause that's what I do. I'm more interested in your stories than give aways, but hey, free stuff is awesome.  If you haven't seen her blog, check it out. She's funny and a great writer and she ran a friggin marathon! Holy crap! Now that's courage.

I try to read and comment on as many blogs as I can each day. If I haven't on yours yet, don't take it personally. I went through and marked almost all of the hot 100 as blogs I follow. I'm trying to read and encourage as many people as I have time to. Right now, I have a lot of time if I'm awake and coherent. Which is iffy sometimes. I know not everyone will like me. I don't like everyone either. I'm here to get healthy. I'm here to be fit. Blogging is a tool to help me do that. I hope I can help some of you get where you want to be.

And, yes, I'm being selfish by following those that I get the most out of. You all should do the same. Find blogs that speak to you in some way. Then read them everyday and Comment. Whether I have 3 followers or 300, your comments mean a lot to me. We need each other here. We all have days that are harder than others. You never know when a little comment will keep someone on track. I love it when new people comment on my blog. I love getting to know new people and helping people just starting out. I have a lot more weight to lose. I need you people. So, my way of paying you back is to read and comment and I hope it helps.

So get busy people! I am tracking my calories and blogging and commenting even though I'm sick. What have you done today to help yourself be healthy??

  2. You are not the first, nor will you be the last, blogger to talk about poop:) One gal wrote the most hysterical post that just had me tickled for hours thinking about it.

I have to admit that I read a lot of blogs and have finally had to let go of thinking I could comment on each post every day. Too many blogs; too little time. I even cut back my own blogging schedule a while back so I'd have more time to be supportive out here for others. To me, the best part about blogging is the community. And that comes from commenting, in part.

  3. Way to GO (and I do mean go) Doc!
Looking forward to my own issues coming up. I really mean this when I write - you are an inspiration to all with they way you are fighting this battle. Even when you are feeling grumpy, tired and pain you have encouraged us all to do better and please tell me how we can let you down when you are doing that while in pain!!! NOT!
    Keep getting better!

  4. Glad you're feeling at least a little better!

I don't get around to comment as often as I should - something to work on. It does help so much to know at least someone's listening! :)

  5. I had that same poo experience after both kids were born. I felt so much better afterward that I wanted to walk up to random strangers and tell them not to take their daily constitutional for granted. Yeah I'm a lunatic, I know.

  6. I am *so* glad I'm not the only person who notices when I've lost a follower, LOL. I dropped from 46 to 45 the other day and would have freaked except, well, my posting is admittedly sporadic at between once and three times a week, and I guess some folks get tired of waiting? Ah well.

Okay, I am a little freaked to be honest, but I'm trying to get over it :P

Congratulations on your "production"!! I know my father and I have taunted each other (we've been downright competitive even) on how long it took to regain some sort of intestinal animation after major medical-ish events, so yes this is sincere, LOL.

What can I say, my family's weird and I'm a legitimate result of the lunacy.

As far as my healthy efforts today? Well, I stopped at Subway for breakfast and picked up a Black Forest Ham Egg White Muffin Melt with provolone cheese, and a little bag of apple slices for good measure. Coffee was black with Splenda.

Lunch was my standard "I'm being good" fare, i.e. a sandwich thin with mustard, lean meat, one slice of cheese, and massive amounts of grapes on the side. And I've already decided I'm stopping by the store on the way home and grabbing some fish for dinner. I'm doing all this because my treadmill is out for this evening since my nephew (almost age 4) is coming over tonight and, bless his heart, child bears watching. Lots and LOTS of watching. So it'll be time to play Good Auntie Amanda, and I'll return to my normally scheduled Workout Maniac Amanda self on Tuesday :)

  7. Hey there. Sounds like things are going well. I'm glad for you. Good switch on the sprite and tea. If your weather's anything like ours it's really getting into the hot tea season of the year. I like honey in my tea too, but not this year. I'm glad you're feeling better. DH is still cranky and helpless sometimes (with his broken right wrist), and I admit to thinking about you in your own recuperative state as I tie his shoes for him or cut his meat. We all need a little extra TLC when we're on the mend. Hope the scale continues on its downward trend and you can pick up where you were so rudely interrupted by the stones. What gall they had to interrupt your journey.

  8. Congrats to you on winning the giveaway, and also on your "Prize Number 2." I'm really amazed that you're still being aware of your calorie intake after surgery. I thought about that this weekend and how you reminded us that we have no excuse for not moving around, so I took your advice and did some sweating in honor of your recovery.

  9. Happy Dance - Movement Two! You must feel loads lighter now. You'll feel even better tomorrow.

What am I doing Today? Tracking my food points and resting. Seriously! No exercise for me today! I participated in a 5K on Saturday. I worked at our Parish Fall Festival fundraiser thingie yesterday which meant eight solid hours on my feet, running back and forth, setting up tents and tables, painting tiny faces with butterflies and unicorns, then running around some more tearing down tents and stands and schlepping contractor sized bags of trash to the dumpster. Yeah. I'm resting today.

I may take Lady P. for a spin this evening if it isn't raining.

  10. Congratulations on the big poop! Try adding Beneful - I swear no taste, no grit, helped me tremendously after my lap chole. (Buy the giant size at Costco)

Angry music - my fave is one called "Same Ol' Story" by Cyndi Lauper. Good for fast walking and has your favorite swear word in it repeatedly. ;)

  11. I'm glad you are getting back to normal. You will lose those pesky little pounds that seem to cling on in no time. I'm like you, I try to read all the blogs and there are some that I can relate to more so than others. I do understand the commenting and how it helps. However, sometimes when I read some I just don't have a comment. It doesn't mean that I don't enjoy reading them I just don't have anything to contribute for that particular entry. I still like to check in on everybody. The more the merrier!

  12. Hooray for the Big Prize and I mean the poop not the itunes! :) I totally moved all weekend just for you, so those 3.6 lbs should be coming off any minute now! I wished it worked that way. Today, I am eating yogurt at the moment and actually tracking my food! I have a chiro appointment and then off to meet with my trainer! I am glad you are doing better! Hugs!

  14. What did I do today to be healthy? I mowed the lawn (with the push mower) and went to the grocery store to stock up on veggies. Yummers! So glad you're feeling better Doc!

  15. Poop-tastic! lol....love your posts doc - no dressing things up, just the facts, the whole facts and nothing but the facts.

What have i done to be healthy - well doc, it was my first day at the newly-joined gym...i almost went there not wanting to like it because i view running as an outdoor activity and don't like being relegated to a gym...However, it was brilliant in this place and my gym prejudice was well and truly blown away.

It took a bit of getting used to running on a treadmill again (i always feel like i am gonna fall at any moment until i get into a groove) but not one twinge was felt in my poor shins or knees which have taking such a hammering over the last month. This is a revelation to me, and after C25K was done i went crazy trying out all the cool weight machines and getting re-acquainted with Mr.Elliptical Trainer.

I am quite looking forward to using the gym for the next 4-5 months of autumn/winter - hopefully by the time i am good to start running outdoors again my loor legs will be in a much better condition to handle running on concrete.

    Glad your feeling better doc.

  18. I'm glad to hear that the weight is going down, and all body functions are working. You have amazed me with your spunkiness (is that a word?) throughout your surgery and post op recovery.

  19. Glad to hear you are feeling better. Congrats on the poop!

Love your comments about the food on my blog! Wish I lived close by, I would bring you some dinner!

  20. Congrats on the progress w/recovery and restored bodily functions.
Q for the family doc in you: After seeing someone with head lice or scabies, how long is it before you stop itching?
See ESPN Magazine, Oct 18,2002 page 126-132 "it happens" about athletes pooping (sometimes in front of millions). Poop is good.

  21. So I've been out of the loop for a while, but I popped onto your blog to get a quick update and see that you've had surgery on your gallbladder! Sorry to read about all the pain and difficulty you have been dealing with, but it seems like you're on the mend now. Hope you feel back to yourself real soon!

  22. Poop! Awesome!!!

I started working a 40 hour work week after being retired. It's kicking my ass, but when I wanted to read some blogs tonight after a week of reading NONE, yours was in the top few I chose.
